Ace was diagnosed with bone cancer in the summer of 2006. Not knowing how long Ace had to live, I thought it only appropriate to throw a farewell party to honor a dog that was loved by so many.

I invited 22 of Ace's dog friends and their attached humans. I planned a dog snack buffet, a spring water bar, two pools and a mister to keep all the dogs cool, plenty of tennis balls and squeaky toys, each dog had a to-go pack full of toys and treats. It seemed the only thing missing was a cake for the honored dog of the party.

My search for a dog cake began. I tried my local dog shops and boutiques, but I came up empty handed. I researched on line and was not impressed with any pre-made cakes that I found. I thought for sure there had to be a cake mix of some sort, but nothing. I insisted on only the best for Ace's special day. The only thing left to do was to create my own dog cake. The cake was an absolute success. All of the dogs in attendance just gobbled it up. Many came around for seconds.

I didn't think much of sharing my newly discovered treat with other dog owners. I continued on with making sure Ace's final days were comfortable and full of love. The following week, the tumor grew to a size that was now unmanageable. Ace was put to rest. It was at that point that I wanted to do something in Ace's memory so that his spirit would live on. Ace's Cakes was born.
